The length of the silicone monocanalicular tube is of 10 cm. Its outer diameter is 0.7 mm. One end of the tube is provided with a stainless steel wire. The end of the wire designed for probing is rounded. Length of the wire differs according to hardness of the steel it is made of. The wire serves as a metallic introducer into the obstructed lachrymal pathways.
Implantation of the monocanalicular tube is used for treatment of lachrymal pathways obstruction at various anatomical levels (atresia and stenosis of lachrymal points, stenosis or atresia of nasolacrimal ducts treated by fibroscopic endonasal procedures or dacryocystorhinostomy – DCRS or canaliculorhinostomy – CRS).
Allergy to silicone.
Complications related to implantation: Injury of tissue in the probed area, bleeding from nasal mucosa.
Early complications: Infection requiering the systemic antibiotic administeration.
Late complications: Re-stenosis after drain removal.
